therapy assistance
that comes to you
At Fleet Healthcare, our therapy assistants (also known as Allied Health Assistants) work closely with our registered therapists to provide practical, cost-effective support for people of all ages. Whether you are an NDIS participant, Aged Care participant or accessing services privately, therapy assistants can play a key role in helping you achieve your therapy goals.
What is Therapy Assistance?
Therapy assistance involves a qualified therapy assistant delivering care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered therapist. Their role is to implement therapy plans and support day-to-day activities, ensuring participants continue to make progress between appointments with their therapist.
Under the NDIS, therapy assistance sits within the Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living (CB Daily Activity) budget. This provides participants with a more affordable way to receive regular support while staying on track with their therapy goals.
How Therapy Assistants Work
Our therapy assistants support clients in a hands-on and practical way, guided by a therapist’s plan.
- Supervision – A therapist delegates specific tasks and ensures the assistant is competent to carry them out.
- Implementation – The assistant works one-on-one with the client, helping them complete exercises, activities, and routines.
- Value for Money – Therapy assistants provide a more cost-effective solution than having all sessions delivered by a therapist, allowing NDIS funding to go further.
Benefits of Therapy Assistance
- Increased Access:
Therapy assistants help make services more available.
- Cost-Effectiveness:
Sessions with a therapy assistant are lower in cost compared to seeing a therapist directly, maximising the use of your Private, Aged Care, or NDIS plan funding. - Continuity of Care:
Assistants provide ongoing support between therapy sessions, helping maintain consistency and momentum towards goals.
Therapy Assistant and the NDIS
For NDIS participants, therapy assistance is a recognised and funded support. It enables you to continue working towards your therapy goals with structured, supervised guidance at a lower cost. This makes therapy assistants an effective option for stretching your funding while still receiving professional, high-quality care.
For those not covered under the NDIS, therapy assistant appointments can also be arranged on a private basis or for My Aged Care participants through their Home Care Package / Support At Home Program Funding.
