Elvira’s Story: Walking Freely Again at 91
By Alex Hunt, Founder of Fleet Healthcare
There’s something special about clients who’ve been with us long enough to really notice their own progress — not because someone told them, but because they’ve felt it themselves, week after week.
Elvira’s story is exactly that kind of progress.
“My name is Elvira Reboredo. My real name is Lía Elvira, but I don’t like Lía very much, so I’ve always gone by Elvira Reboredo.”
At 91, she’s built a routine with physiotherapist Thalia that has changed what a walk in the park — and a walk around her own home — looks like.
From a Few Steps to a Full Lap of the Park
When Elvira first started, even a short walk outside was a challenge.
“When Thalia was coming for the first time, it was very difficult for me to go to the park and walk in the park. So I have to walk a little bit and come back. Now I’m doing all around the park perfectly, and it’s good for me because it’s very good exercise.”
That kind of progress rarely happens overnight. It happens one session, one small improvement, at a time.
Progress Her Own Doctor Noticed
For Elvira, the proof of her progress hasn’t just come from how she feels — it’s been confirmed by the people around her.
“I can see every week when she’s coming back, it’s different, and I want to do it. And even the doctor — my GP said, ‘Elvira, you are really, really better.’ So I’m very happy.”
Hearing that kind of feedback from a GP is exactly the sort of outside validation that makes progress feel real.
From Walker to Walking Freely at Home
Perhaps the most striking change is what’s happened inside her own home.
“I’m very happy now. Very, very happy I can walk here inside in my home. Before I was doing it with a walker all the time.”
That shift — from needing a walker indoors to moving freely — is the kind of change that reshapes daily life in ways that go far beyond the therapy session itself.
A Lovely Person and a Lovely Teacher
Beyond the physical progress, Elvira speaks warmly about the relationship she’s built with Thalia.
“I’m very happy with Thalia. She’s very lovely, isn’t she? She’s a lovely person and a lovely teacher.”
And when asked if she’d recommend Fleet Healthcare to others, her answer was immediate.
“Of course. Yes, I do recommend it. Very, very good. I will recommend everyone if I can.”
