Lucy P’s Story: Moving Again at 83
By Alex Hunt, Founder of Fleet Healthcare
I didn’t get to meet Lucy in person, but after watching her video and speaking with our team, her story stayed with me. It’s the kind of story that reminds me why we built Fleet Healthcare in the first place.
She begins with a quiet honesty:
“My background is very long… and I had so many problems with my back.”
Lucy is 83. She has lived with pain for decades.
Years ago, she had a terrible accident — she fell off a train.
Since then, her back has never been the same.
“It’s always been bad,” she said.
“I’m always wanting to have some kind of therapy.”
And finally, with Younes our massage therapist, she found the help she’d been waiting for.
When Younes First Visited
When Younes first arrived at her home, even standing up from the couch was a struggle.
Lucy showed us exactly how it used to be:
“For the first session, I couldn’t stand up from the couch without… without support.” “To stand up, I had to do it like this… and to sit down, the same thing. I had to.”
Her movements were shaky.
Her confidence was low. But she was willing to try and that’s where everything began.
Learning to Move Again
Week after week, Younes guided her gently.
No rushing. No pressure. Just patience and the right kind of support.
Lucy spoke with so much gratitude:
“Mr. Younes, he helped me, he showed me how to do it. How to use my muscles, my hands and knees to get off the floor.”
Those may sound like small things. But when you are 83, and every movement feels risky, this is life-changing.
And Lucy knows that improvement takes time. She said:
“I want to get better. I know it’s not going to be miracle because I’m 83 years old.”
Real Progress at 83
You can hear the pride in her voice when she shares how far she has come:
“I’m going very good with Younes, even for my 83 years old… with my getting up, moving, doing things.”
You can hear her confidence shifting.
Her movements getting easier.
Her independence growing again.
This is exactly what mobile care can do. Meet people where they are, at their own pace, in the comfort of their home.
Beyond Therapy: A Friendship
One of my favourite moments in the whole story wasn’t about exercises.
It was about connection.
Lucy looked at Younes and said:
“Thank you, Younes. It’s good. We become friends.”
And he replied:
“Of course we are.”
Then she laughed and added:
“Next time I can make coffee.”
That’s the heart of good healthcare.
Not just the treatment — the trust.
Not just the movement — the human bond and connection that forms along the way.
Why This Story Matters
Lucy knows her journey isn’t about being pain-free or perfect.
It’s about staying independent.
Feeling safe.
Having someone who believes in her.
Her words say it best:
“I want to get better.”
Lucy’s story shows that progress is possible at any age. With the right support, even the smallest steps can mean everything.
