Pam’s Story: Staying Active After Major Surgery
By Alex Hunt, Founder of Fleet Healthcare
Pam’s story is one of quiet determination. Listening to her talk about her body and what helps her keep moving highlights just how powerful the right support can be when mobility becomes more challenging.
Pam is 80 years old. She speaks openly about what her body has been through over the years, and she does not shy away from the reality of it.
“I’ve had a lot of back operations. I’ve got from my neck to my bottom all plates and shoulder replacement.”
That is a significant history. And it changes what day to day movement looks like.
Living With Ongoing Physical Challenges
After so many surgeries, the things Pam once enjoyed are no longer easy to access.
“I used to love to go swimming and to the gym. It’s pretty hard now to do that.”
That sense of loss is something many people experience after major operations. Movement often has to be reimagined rather than pushed.
Finding safe, realistic ways to stay active becomes essential.
Finding Ways to Keep Moving
Pam works with Keely, one of our physiotherapists. What stands out is how flexible and practical their sessions are.
“Oh, she’s marvelous. She really is.”
Care adapts to Pam’s environment and to how her body feels on the day.
“If it’s raining, we do exercises inside against chairs or railings like this.”
There is no rigid plan. Just thoughtful, responsive care focused on keeping Pam moving safely.
Walking Together, One Step at a Time
One of the things Pam values most is being able to walk.
“But to walk with Keely, brilliant. Really brilliant.”
That walking is not about fitness goals. It is about maintaining mobility and confidence.
“It keeps me where I can walk and move.”
And just as importantly, it is something Pam genuinely looks forward to.
“I always look forward to when you’re coming.”
More Than Just Physiotherapy
Pam and Keely share more than exercises.
“We have fun.”
They laugh together. There is ease and warmth in their sessions. That human connection matters. When care feels enjoyable, people stay engaged and motivated.
It stops feeling like treatment and starts feeling like support.
Why This Story Matters
Pam’s story is not about undoing years of surgery. It is about maintaining movement, confidence, and quality of life at 80.
It is about adapting to what the body allows and finding ways to stay active with the right help.
This is what mobile physiotherapy can offer.
Care that meets people where they are.
Support that adapts.
Movement that feels safe and achievable.
When asked if she would recommend Fleet Healthcare, Pam did not hesitate.
“Oh, definitely. Yeah. Very, very helpful. Very good.”
And sometimes, that says everything.
