June and Alan’s Story: Care That Keeps Them Moving at Home

By Alex Hunt, Founder of Fleet Healthcare

I didn’t get to meet June and Alan in person, but after watching their video and speaking with our team, their story stayed with me. It is a quiet, honest reminder that good healthcare is not always about big interventions. Often, it is about consistency, trust, and making everyday life easier at home.

June and Alan are in their early eighties. They are thoughtful, practical, and very clear about what matters to them. Staying healthy. Staying comfortable. And staying in their own home.

They know their bodies well, and they take pride in looking after themselves.

“I like to make sure I keep the feet healthy and the rest of me healthy.”

Staying On Top of Health Changes

June is 81 and lives with type 2 diabetes. She is open about it, but also confident.

“I’ve got type 2 diabetes. I keep it under control.”

For June, foot care is not something she takes lightly. It is part of managing her health and staying independent. She understands that small issues can quickly become bigger problems if they are not looked after properly.

That awareness is something we see often in people who want to stay active and well for as long as possible.

Managing Pain and Everyday Issues

Alan is 84. He describes himself as being pretty healthy overall, but like many people his age, he has a few things that need ongoing attention.

“In the scheme of things, I’m pretty healthy, but I do have a little bit of a problem with the back.”

Physiotherapy helps him manage that. But there is also something else he mentions very openly.

“I do have ingrown toenails, which probably not what people want to hear.”

It is said with humour, but it is also very real. These are the kinds of issues that can cause discomfort, limit movement, and affect quality of life if they are ignored.

Care That Comes to Them

One of the biggest things June and Alan value is not having to travel.

“We like the fact that he comes to the house.”

Ali visits them at home and takes care of Alan’s foot care, keeping things comfortable and under control.

“Ali looks after them. He does a great job and keeps it well under control.”

Alan adds something that made me smile.

“He seems to get the job done without inflicting too much pain.”

That balance matters. Being thorough, but gentle.

More Than Just the Treatment

As with so many of our clients, the relationship is just as important as the care itself.

“He likes a chat.”

June and Alan laugh about it. There is ease in the conversation, familiarity, and trust. They joke that they are the only ones who talk to him, but what really comes through is how much they value that connection.

“We like people.”

Healthcare does not need to feel rushed or impersonal. When care is delivered in the home, it becomes part of someone’s routine, not a disruption to it.

Why This Story Matters

June and Alan’s story is not about dramatic change. It is about staying well. Staying comfortable. And having the right support to manage the things that come with ageing.

They are doing what so many people want to do. Look after their health. Stay on top of small issues before they become big ones. And keep living life in their own home.

This is what mobile care does best. It removes barriers. It meets people where they are. And it supports independence in a way that feels natural and respectful.

For June and Alan, that makes all the difference.
